Present Use

DuPont does not make PFOA, PFOS or GenX.

Today, our manufacturing and use is less than .01% of the total PFAS used in the world. While our use is extremely small, we’re actively pursuing alternatives to PFAS where possible in our manufacturing processes.

As part of the DowDuPont merger, DuPont acquired a heritage Dow business that uses a small amount PFOS and PFOA granted through an EPA exemption.

We expect to phase out of these uses
by the end of 2019.

DuPont, along with many other manufacturers, still uses other less persistent, short-chain PFAS in the manufacture of some of our products and as firefighting foam at some of our sites. However, we are evaluating ways to significantly reduce or eliminate the use of these short-chain materials where possible in the future, and are committed to a complete elimination of these uses by 2021.

The knowledge base around PFOA and other PFAS environmental footprint and health effects continues to evolve through work led by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and other health and environmental organizations around the world. Though we are a very small user of these substances, we’re committed to working with regulatory bodies and agencies to support their efforts to develop science-based guidelines. As regulatory agencies increasingly turn their attention to these substances, we want to be engaged in dialog, share data and facts, and support solutions where possible.
